MAGNESIUM for healthy bones

Magnesium – 50% of the body’s magnesium is found in bones.  New studies increasingly uncover new functions of magnesium, some of which include:

  • The absorption and metabolism of calcium.
  • The conversion of Vitamin D into its active form ( 25-(OH)D3 to 1,25-(OH)2D3) [10].
  • Stimulating the thyroid’s production of calcitonin, which helps to regulate blood calcium by slowing down the amount of calcium released from the bones, slowing bone resorption [11].
  • Regulating parathyroid hormone, which is a regulator of bone breakdown.
  • Activate the enzyme required for production of new bone.
  • Regulating calcium transport.

Magnesium has been shown to be in decreased concentration in the blood in post menopausal women with osteoporosis [12].  Osteoporotic women have been shown to have decreased serum levels of magnesium [13], and lower bone magnesium content. Another study showed that magnesium supplementation improved bone mineral density [14].

This pumpkin smoothie looks amazing!! I have all the ingredients due to the fact that I’m making the Pumpkin Oatmeal tomorrow! I love the addition of Chia seeds, what great texture! I’ve made the commitment to join this “Holiday Fat-Off”. I highly recommend following Meagan’s blog. She has great advice and info about nutrition, exercise and weight loss!! I love Meagan. She was my trainer who prepared me for my wedding in 2008. I was in the best shape ever with her. It was the first time I actually developed “snow cap” shoulders! And I was balanced in strength, endurance, flexibility and power! I have fond memories of boxing, kickboxing, running up stairs, TRX, push-ups, push-ups, push-ups and pull-ups too! The workouts were always fun and always challenging. I looked forward to them and never missed one session! Follow as well for general health and wellness tips and information. She’s Amazing!

Kaiolohia “Peace of Mind”

Why “Kaiolohia” resonates with me as a blog site name…

Kaiolohia in Hawaiian means “calm sea” and translates to Peace of Mind. As a Holistic Chiropractor that’s what I aim to give to my patients everyday, Peace of Mind. I want to help them understand what’s going on with their bodies, their mind, their spirit and how it is all connected. I want to educate them on alternative natural remedies that can help strengthen the immune system, balance hormones, improve digestion, enhance detoxification, enable better sleep and increase energy. My goal as a Functional Medicine Practitioner is to find the root of the problem, not to diagnose by signs and symptoms and more importantly, I don’t want to put a bandaid on the problem as it will inevitably worsen with time. Our intention is to give information that unfortunately isn’t given through mainstream media and conventional medicine.  With information comes knowledge and choices. With knowledge and choices comes Peace of Mind.

Dr. T

Hi there!

I’ve decided to start a blog with three of my best friends. The idea had been in transit for a while, one of us would mention doing a group blog here and there in texts, emails, Sykpe sessions and phone calls.  Finally, we agreed to go ahead and commit and do it. So here we are!

We will talk about exploring all kinds of things. We will discuss the ups and downs of: life, love, career and family. We will ponder the things we are doing for fun, our personal struggles, our defeats, our wins, our dreams… ultimately we will discuss our own journeys.

While trying to find the main focus of our topics, I reflected on our conversations. For the most part, no matter how they started, our  conversations inevitably would come full circle to us wanting to love to live, to live our life’s purpose and to see those we love find true happiness as well.

So, the intention of this blog is to journal our thoughts and experiences and add some facts, links and information centers for those who want to explore further. Each of us will be giving a different flavor of what we’re going through now, where we’ve been and where we are hoping to go. The four of us are on our own personal journey; however our desired destination is the same. We want to attain higher consciousness,  live and breathe in the moment and find true bliss and happiness.

What makes one want to do this? Well, everyone has different reasons, different perspectives, different things that drive them. This is what we will be discussing.

For the four of us Our goal is Universal. Our goal is to achieve optimal health and wellness by finding balance, attaining harmony and self-acceptance and living beautifully with pure joy and love in every moment. It sounds easy and maybe to some, a little cheesy, but whatever you think of this it’s yours for the taking. We are simply here to put the information out there. Information=Knowledge=Choices.

So… Journey with us!
